The Mushroom Queen & King

Welcome!

This website is the result of extensive planning and dedication to determining our path for the Missouri Mushroom Market.

As soon as Tom was big enough to climb over small logs, he began mushroom hunting with his father (Tom I). In NW Missouri, morel season generally starts in early April and during that month in the 1980s, whoever found the most morels after school on any given day was crowned The Mushroom King. Guess who always won the crown? You got it! Tom Weipert has been known as The Mushroom King ever since those days in high school long ago.

In the early 2000s, Tom met Colette and the two fell in love. The pair shared a dream of making mushrooms a large part of their life together. Years of work came to fruition in February 2011 when TMK Enterprise LLC was born and registered in the great state of Missouri. The Mushroom King and Missouri Mushroom Market soon followed.

Tom is a gourmet chef and had a wish. He wanted to give the folks who craved that earthy taste of morel mushrooms what they desired. So, The Mushroom King’s Famous Cream of Morel Mushroom Soup Mix was created! Colette has become a certified identification expert alongside Tom and has learned proper mushroom care from Forest to Table.

With care and love infused in every customer order, Colette spends her spare time researching tree types and tree health. She still enjoys getting out in the forest as often as possible. Her mushroom expertise is growing yearly thanks to The Mushroom King for sharing his knowledge.

Tom and Colette’s yearly foraging travels cover forested areas from Missouri all the way west to the Pacific Ocean. They forage a wide variety of edible mushrooms 12 months of the year.

Thank you joining us on this journey.

With love,
Colette & Thomas Weipert

  1. Check with the Missouri Mycological Society. They used to have a yearly certification class.

  2. How does one become a certified mushroom identifier in the state of Missouri?

  3. We would be happy to teach and tour nine year olds. Spring in the Midwest is a great time of year to get out in the woods for exploring. Where might you be located? We do a lot of traveling and would need to plan ahead.

  4. my daughter is obsessed with mushrooms and some of her friends. do you do any tours paid? She is 9!
